Hippotherapy is a equine science where riders use the momentum of the horseback movement for therapy. The gait of the horse moves very much like a person in relation to their muscles and physical structure. Hippotherapy use to be used to bring self esteem to children who were developmentally disabled or had mental and emotional handicaps. The scientic findings were exraordinary. Today, they use equine therapy for persons who have alcohol and substance abuse problems. And, in prisons, inmates have benefitted from equine therapy by gentling wild horses into tame mustangs.
